Alternative Help for Multiple Sclerosis

Good research has resulted into writing this article for you, I hope it helps.
Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disorder that has an effect on the central nervous system, or CNS. The CNS contains the brain, spinal cord, optic nerves and a protective tissue called myelin which facilitates proper nerve function and communication. In patients with MS, the myelin and/or nerve fibers is missing or damaged in certain areas. There are different degrees of MS that a person can be diagnosed with. The four clinical courses include relapsing-remitting characteristics, primary-progressive characteristics, secondary-progressive characteristics and progressive-relapsing characteristics. In addition to various prescription drugs, there is alternative help for multiple sclerosis.
One form of alternative medicine that may be used in the battle against MS is naturopathy. Naturopathy involves the combination of nutrition and herbs to alleviate symptoms and promote better health. A naturopath can not diagnose or prescribe, but they can make recommendations. It's thought that eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, cold water fish and whole grains can be beneficial. Vitamins that may be recommended include Omega oils, B vitamins, and Vitamin C. There are also a variety of herbs that may benefit sufferers of MS as well. Examples of herbs that may be recommended by your doctor and/or naturopath include hawthorn and gingko. Never take any herbs or supplements without approval from your physician.
Homeopathy is another form of alternative medicine that some MS patients use to find relief from symptoms. Various homeopathic treatments can be combined to offer relief from various symptoms like muscle discomfort, spasms and fatigue. If you are interested in using homeopathy, talk to your doctor first and also consult a qualified and licensed homeopathic practitioner. Acupuncture is yet another form of alternative medicine that people use for a variety of conditions which may include MS. Acupuncture involves the strategic placement of thin needles to stimulate certain body and brain mechanisms such as those used for healing.
If you are seeking alternative help for multiple sclerosis, you may be unsure of where to start. Some doctors are more open and accepting of alternative medicine than others. There are even doctors who combine traditional pharmaceuticals with alternative therapies to provide their patients with every available option when it comes to treatment. The best first step is to talk to your primary care provider about your desire to try natural remedies, then contact an alternative practitioner if your doctor cannot provide you with the assistance you need.

Today's Tip On Multiple Sclerosis
There are so many things that can be done to make a home safer for people living with multiple sclerosis. For instance, choose furniture with rounded edges, put protective padding around the corners of tables, and whenever possible, place furniture against the wall. Use a portable phone or beeper so that the patient can call for help from anywhere in the house. So long as you put safety first, living with MS can be manageable. |
